Colonial Pushes Baltimore North Destination End to May 1
OAKHURST, N.J. (DTN) --- Colonial Pipeline this afternoon, in light of
Tuesday's incident in Baltimore, Maryland, and out of an abundance of caution,
said it would provide additional service time for the North Baltimore
destination "to further develop and provide Colonial shippers with additional
optionality at this time to accommodate such needs."
Colonial filed with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission earlier this
month to cancel transportation service on Line 36, which delivers product to
the Baltimore-North (Baltimore City), also known as Baltimore North
Destination, effective April 1. At the time, Colonial said Line 36 has one
terminal connected to it and that underutilization and increased integrity
expenditures necessitate cancellation.
However, today Colonial amended its original tariff filing to extend the
date of the cancellation of service to the Baltimore North Destination to May
1, 2024.
Colonial believes its South Baltimore destination, served off Lines 4, 31
and 32, have ample space for shippers to meet the increased demand, "in light
of the timing" of the bridge incident and "out of an abundance of caution" is
providing additional time and optionality.
"This extension will allow shippers more time to adjust to the changes and
to bring more clarity to the schedule for reopening the ship channel into the
Port of Baltimore."
Other than the change of the effective dates of the tariffs to May 1, the
amended tariffs are unchanged from the original tariffs.
Fuel to the Baltimore and Washington, D.C. markets is primarily delivered by
CPL's Line 4, a 504,000-bpd mixed product pipeline that terminates at Dorsey
Junction in Maryland. There are four pipeline spurs from Dorsey that connect to
Baltimore-Washington International Airport, Curtis Bay, and south Baltimore.
Three of the line spurs carry mixed fuels with pipeline capacity totaling
roughly 188,800 bpd. The fourth line is dedicated to kerosene jet fuel to the
BWI airport with a capacity of about 28,800 bpd.
Colonial's 855,000-bpd Line 3 mixed product pipeline continues from Dorsey
to the Aberdeen Junction, and ends in Linden, New Jersey. A line spur with
about 62,400 bpd of mixed product capacity from Aberdeen connects with north
Baltimore.
